Tour around Yogyakarta to visit amazing historical landmarks such as the Taman Sari Water Castle and magnificent temples like the Borobudur Buddhist temple.
Day 1 – Yogya / Prambanan / City Tour / Malioboro
Be greeted by our tour guide once you touch down at Yogyakarta Airport before embarking on your fun holiday. You’ll be brought to Prambanan Temple, a 9th-century Hindu temple which was dedicated to the god Shiva and actually consists of 240 other temples. You’ll get to marvel at the intricate illustrations and reliefs of the Indonesian version of the Ramayana epic in the stone carvings. Then you’ll head to Yogyakarta city where you’ll get to visit the Sultan’s Palace. This essentially walled city is home to around 2,500 people with markets, shops and schools. The group of buildings in which the current Sultan still resides is the innermost buildings in the city. Built between 1755 and 1756 showcases the beauty of Javanese architecture.
Next stop is the water castle (also known as Taman Sari Water Castle) which is the site of a former royal garden. After strolling through this peaceful garden you’ll head to the Malioboro shopping centre. Here, you’ll be able to find anything from Javanese cultural tokens to adorable souvenirs and other cheap items. Throughout the day you’ll be served lunch and dinner at a local restaurant during your sightseeing. At the end of the day, you’ll head to the hotel to check in.
Day 2 – Lava / Borobudur
Start your day with a hearty breakfast before getting picked up at your hotel to be brought to Cangkringan. Cangkringan is a village situated on the slope of Mt Merapi and was destroyed after the last eruption of Merapi Volcano, spewing out more than a million cubic meter of volcanic materials. At the village, you’ll get to visit the Merapi Volcano Museum where you can view a scale model demonstration of the volcano’s previous eruptions dating back from the 18th century to today. You’ll also get to experience what an earthquake feels like at their simulator. Then head to Borobudur temple, a 9th century Mahayana Buddhist temple decorated with over 2,000 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. You’ll also visit Mendut Temple and Pawon Temple which are both Buddhist temples with beautiful landscapes. At the end of the day, you’ll head back to the city where you’ll make a short stop to buy the sweet Salak Pondoh (or snake fruit) before going back to the hotel.
